Although orthodontic treatment is ideally completed during childhood and adolescence, corrective treatment is often appropriate for adults, too. Roomchang offers a variety of treatment options.

Common Orthodontics Problems

If you have any of the following, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment:

• Overbite — Where the upper front teeth lie stick out over the lower teeth
• Underbite — Where the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth too far back
• Crossbite — when the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally
• Open bite — space between the biting surfaces of the front or side teeth when the back teeth bite together
• Misplaced midline— when the center of the upper front teeth does not line up with the center of the lower front teeth
• Spacing — Gap, or spaces between the teeth due to teeth being too far apart or missing
• Crowding — When there are too many teeth for the jaw to accommodate, leading some to be pushed outwards or inwards

How Does Orthodontic Treatment Work?

Many different types of appliances, both fixed and removable, can be used to help move teeth, retrain muscles and affect the growth of the jaws. These appliances work by placing gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws. Our orthodontists will prepare a treatment plan tailored to your individual case to determine which orthodontic approach is likely to be the most effective.

Types of Treatment

Braces

The most common appliance, braces consist of brackets bonded to the front of the tooth and arch wires which passed through the brackets and attached the bands fixed around the teeth. Tightening the arch wire puts tension on the teeth, gradually moving them to their proper position. Braces are adjusted every few weeks to bring the teeth into place, which may take a few months or few years, depending on the severity of the problem. Modern braces are smaller and lighter and use much less metal than in the past, and come in bright colors for kids as well as clear styles preferred by many adults.

Space Maintainers

A space maintainer is used to keep the space when a baby tooth is lost open until the permanent tooth erupts. A band is attached to the tooth next to the empty space, and a wire is extended to the tooth on the other side of the space.

Invisalign Braces

An alternative to traditional braces, aligners sit over the teeth and gradually push the teeth into the desired shape. Aligners are made of clear plastic and are virtually invisible, they are also removable making eating, brushing and flossing teeth much easier. Aligners are becoming a more common treatment option, especially with adults.
