About Indonesia

With over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is the largest island country in the world. Its huge size means it has massive potential for adventure. It has its share of curious wildlife and natural wonders, from Komodo Dragons and Orangutans to magnificent volcanoes and postcard-perfect islands. Besides its varied landscape, the country’s culture is very diverse as well, making it one of the world’s most interesting destinations.

In terms of medical tourism, Indonesia might not be as popular as its neighboring countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. However, the country actually does have the potential to emerge as the top medical tourism destination. The country’s government is currently planning to further develop the sector. Many hospitals and clinics in the country offer affordable, high-quality procedures, with modern technology and skilled medical practitioners. The country currently has 30 JCI-accredited hospitals.

Popular Cities and Regions in Indonesia

Attracting more than 8 million international tourists each year, Bali is the main tourist destination in Indonesia and is one of the most visited destinations in the world. It is famous for its dazzling beaches, pristine waters, jungle-covered mountains, rich culture, and lively nightlife. Some of the most popular areas on the island are Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Ubud, and Canggu. The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, is also a popular place for international visitors. It is home to the National Monument (Monas), the National Museum of Indonesia, and a unique old city (Kota Tua). It is also popular for its lively nightlife and scrumptious culinary scene. Along with Jakarta and Bali, other popular cities are Surabaya, Medan, and Yogyakarta.

Transport in Indonesia

Soekarno Hatta International Airport is the main gateway to Indonesia. It offers domestic and international flights and is served by numerous major and budget airlines. Since Indonesia is a large country, domestic flights are the most convenient and fastest way to travel, but they can be rather expensive. Trains, available only on the island of Java and Sumatra, are good options to travel from one city to another. Buses are widely available all around the country. To travel from one island to another, ferry boats and speed boats are available as well. Traveling inside cities can be different in each region. In general, visitors can opt for motorcycle taxis, Angkutan Kota (Angkot), city buses, or motorcycle taxis. In big cities, such as Jakarta, visitors can enjoy an integrated public transport system.

Visas in Indonesia

Indonesia allows citizens of 170 countries to visit without an Indonesian visa for 30 days and a visa on arrival is available for nationals of 68 countries. All visitors will need to hold a passport that is valid for at least 6 months and a valid return ticket.

Weather in Indonesia

Indonesia has a tropical climate and enjoys hot and humid weather all year round. It has two seasons: the dry season (April – October) and the rainy season (November – March). The rainy season can be very humid with a significant amount of rain, but rainfall is usually brief and does not occur every day.
