Everything you'll need to know about CoolSculpting in Singapore

What exactly is CoolSculpting and how does it work?

CoolSculpting is the brand name for cryolipolysis, which is a fat-freezing method to eliminate stubborn fat from certain areas in the body. Like liposuction, it is used to target areas of the body where it is more difficult to remove fat by exercise and diet. CoolSculpting is noninvasive, which means it does not involve incisions, surgery, needles, or anesthetics, so it carries less risk than liposuction. Since its first approval from the United States' FDA back in 2010, it has become one of the most popular fat reduction procedures in the world, particularly because of its noninvasive nature.

CoolSculpting works by using freezing temperatures (around +5°C to -5°C) to break down fat. It targets fat cells beneath the skin precisely, cooling them to temperatures that trigger their natural death but leave your skin and tissues unharmed. Over time, the dead cells are sent to the lymphatic system to be filtered out as waste, leaving you with a more sculpted body. The freezing temperature is delivered using special rounded paddles that are applied to the skin. These rounded paddles also suction your skin and fat like a "vacuum."

There are two kinds of fat tissue in our body. The first one is fat that is closer to the surface of the skin, and the second one is fat that is denser and deeper in the body. CoolSculpting works best for the first type but may not be able to reach the second type. The fat that is closer to the skin's surface can typically be pinched between your fingers, such as tummy rolls, inner thighs, and double chin. Some of the most common areas that can be treated using CoolSculpting are as follows:

  • Abdomen – one of the most common places the body stores fat is the stomach, which can be hard to be eliminated with diet and exercise alone.
  • Flanks – bulges at the sides of your waists, known as "love handles," responds extremely well to CoolSculpting. Getting the procedure in this area helps bathing suits, pants, leggings, and slimmer clothes like skits and dresses to fit better.
  • Thighs – fat in the thighs can be particularly stubborn. However, CoolSculpting offers good results in eliminating fat on the inner and outer thigh areas.
  • Upper arm – sagging, jiggly skin hanging from the arms may not be able to be treated using CoolSculpting. However, if you have fluffy and lumpy fat around your upper arms, CoolSculpting can give you good results.
  • Double chin – fat under the chin responds well to CoolSculpting. There is a mini applicator that is specifically designed to treat fat under the chin precisely and safely.
  • Underneath the buttocks – CoolSculpting can effectively treat fat underneath the buttocks. The area will be smoothed out, giving you a more contoured and slimmer appearance.
  • Back fat – fat in certain areas of your back can be removed through CoolSculpting. The two most commonly treated areas on the back are the mid-back fat on the sides of your body and fat under the bra line (bra bulge).

Why choose CoolSculpting over surgery?

CoolSculpting is taking the cosmetic procedure world by storm, and for good reasons. Today, many people prefer CoolSculpting compared to more invasive procedures like liposuction. Here are some of the reasons why you should choose CoolSculpting over surgery:

  • Quick and simple – CoolSculpting is a relatively fast and simple procedure. First of all, it only takes an hour at most to treat one area; some even take as little as 30 minutes. Then, once the procedure is complete, little to no downtime is required. You will have some temporary side effects, such as numbness and redness in the treatment area, but they will not restrict you to bed.
  • Noninvasive – one of the main reasons behind CoolSculpting's popularity is its noninvasive nature. This translates to lower risks and no scarring since no incision, needles, or anesthetic is used during the procedure. Also, if you are afraid of going under the knife, then CoolSculpting is the best option for you.
  • Natural-looking results – just like how you would tone your body progressively through exercise, CoolSculpting gives natural-looking body contours that happens gradually.
  • Long-lasting results – the result of CoolSculpting is long-lasting. It will last as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Boost self-confidence – if you feel unconfident because of excess fat in certain areas of your body, CoolSculpting can help you boost your self-confidence by eliminating those fats, giving you a more sculpted and toned appearance.
  • Lower cost than surgery – when compared to liposuction, CoolSculpting is relatively more affordable. With liposuction, you need to add anesthesia costs, medications, operating room fees, and more. You don't have to worry about any of these additional costs with CoolSculpting.

Why have CoolSculpting in Singapore?

In the last several years, Singapore has become one of the top destinations for CoolSculpting in the world due to the many benefits the country offers. Below are some of the reasons why you should try fat freezing in Singapore.

Top-notch clinics

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Singapore has the best health care in all of Asia. The medical centers in the country are known to offer the best service and quality, and its cosmetic clinics are not an exception. When it comes to CoolSculpting providers, Singapore has some of the best in the world. These clinics are accredited by both international and local accreditation boards, so you don't have to worry about their quality. In addition, they only use state-of-the-art fat freezing equipment, including authentic CoolSculpting machines. The CoolSculpting clinics in Singapore are also known for their pristine cleanliness and excellent facilities. You can be sure to feel comfortable throughout your procedure. In addition, the staff and doctors can all speak good English, meaning language barrier is not a problem.

Experienced doctors

In order to get the best results of CoolSculpting, the skills of the doctor and therapists are very important. Singapore offers experienced doctors and therapists who have trained specifically for CoolSculpting. To help you achieve the result that you dream of, the doctors will discuss everything about the procedure and listen to your concerns. They are always transparent about the procedure and also follow-up with their clients to see how they are doing. With the doctors' and therapists' skilled hand, your fat freezing treatment will be as effective as it can be.

Multiple treatment areas at the same time

Numerous clinics in Singapore have multiple CoolSculpting machines so that they can treat up to four, non-overlapping areas at the same time. This obviously reduces treatment time, and you do not have to book multiple sessions to eliminate fat from various areas of your body.

More affordable CoolSculpting cost

There are indeed far cheaper options for CoolSculpting in Asia. Even so, Singapore is still much less expensive when compared to most western countries. Still, the quality is on par, if not better. In addition to the already cheaper price, clinics that offer fat freeze procedures in Singapore offer promotions. This means that you can get the same effective fat freezing treatment without having to spend as much money as you would in your home country.

Fat freezing in Singapore has a variation of prices, which depends on machine cost and consumable cost per session. The average price is around $290 per session, but some clinics offer the procedure for as low as $185 per session.

Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting in Singapore?

CoolSculpting is not always the right choice for everyone. Some people make better candidates for the procedure. In contrast, others may not even be allowed to undergo the procedure in Singapore. Here are a few signs that CoolSculpting in Singapore might be the right option for you.

You are near your target weight

The main goal of CoolSculpting is to eliminate excess fat from your body, but it is not a weight-loss treatment. Most people lose up to 25% of their unwanted fat from the treatment area, and while it is possible to lose a bit more fat through multiple sessions, the procedure will not help you lose weight. You need to remember that CoolSculpting should be done to give you a more toned and sculpted body. For most treatment area, your BMI score needs to be below 30. However, suppose you want to eliminate fat from your double chin area. In that case, you may be allowed to undergo the procedure as long as your BMI score is below 43.

You are generally healthy

CoolSculpting is not a surgery, and it typically has fewer risks than surgical procedures. However, it is still a medical procedure and is only recommended for people who are generally healthy. The healthier you are, the less likely you will experience complications and side effects. During your initial consultation with your doctor, it is important to let them know if you have any chronic conditions or any other health-related concerns.

You need to have pinchable fat

CoolSculpting only works on pinchable fat (subcutaneous fat), which is fat that lies above your muscle wall. This type of fat is fluffy and jiggly and is located directly under the skin. It is harmless but is incredibly hard to get rid of, even with a healthy lifestyle. You can tell if you have pinchable fat by simply pinching them. However, make sure that the pinchable fat is, indeed, fat and not something else like skin. Of course, when you are pinching an area, you are going to have some fat and skin, but ensure that it is primarily fat.

You are not pregnant or planning to get pregnant in the future

CoolSculpting is not the best idea when you are pregnant. Pregnancy changes a woman's body in so many ways. Many women end up with additional fat deposits on their abdomen after pregnancy or gain weight during the nine months they are pregnant. This means that you might not see any results from CoolSculpting if you do it while you are pregnant. If you are not currently pregnant but considering it in the future, you might want to postpone it until you have your kid as well.

What happens during a CoolSculpting session?

What happens during a CoolSculpting session?

On the treatment day, your doctor will mark the positions on the treatment area where the CoolSculpting applicators would be placed. This step is very important to ensure that the applicators will be placed where you need the sculpting the most. Then, your doctor may take pictures of the treatment area from all angles. This is done to make sure that you get precise before and after photos, so you can properly see the results.

After your doctor marks the treatment area and takes pictures, the CoolSculpting procedure will begin. You will sit or lie on a chair/bed during the procedure, and your position depends on the area of treatment. For example, if the treatment area was around the buttocks, you will lie on your stomach, but you may sit up and face forward if the treatment area was on your thighs. Your doctor will then apply a gel pad and applicator to the marked treatment areas. Controlled cooling is delivered by the applicator to the targeted fat. Your doctor will move the device around over your skin, while administering cooling and suction technology to the area. In some cases, several CoolSculpting machines may be used to treat multiple areas in one visit.

During the process, it is normal to experience some feelings of pinching and pulling. However, the procedure only involves little to no pain, so no anesthetic is required. As soon as the CoolSculpting machine is done freezing the fat in the treatment area, the applicator is removed, and the area is given a deep massage. This is necessary to help speed up the breakdown of the frozen fat cells. It is common to feel slightly uncomfortable. During the procedure, you can listen to music, read, sleep, surf the internet, watch videos, or even work on your laptop or tablet.

Once the procedure is done, you are free to leave the clinic and go back to your normal activities.

CoolSculpting in Singapore, does it work?

Given the advanced technology and excellent healthcare that Singapore boasts, CoolSculpting in this country is a very safe and effective procedure with a high success rate. Over 80% of people who had CoolSculpting were satisfied with the results they receive. A single session of CoolSculpting may reduce around 20% to 80% of fat. Some people achieve their desired result after just a session, while others need to undergo more than one session.

How long it will take for you to see the result can vary, but most people start to notice an improvement after around three weeks. The full result may take as long as 3 to 4 months to develop. The result of CoolSculpting is mostly permanent since it eliminates fat cells from the body. However, you may lose your results if you gain significant weight after your treatment. This is why maintaining healthy body weight is important. It is recommended that you make healthy lifestyle changes, such as consuming a healthy diet filled with vegetables, fresh fruits, and whole grains, as well as exercising regularly, at least 30 to 60 minutes a day.

Is CoolSculpting in Singapore safe?

CoolSculpting in Singapore is very safe. However, you still need to be aware that all procedures have risks. With CoolSculpting, the risks are temporary aching, stinging, bruising, redness, cramping, tingling sensation, and itching. Very rarely, CoolSculpting may cause permanent scarring and the formation of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia.

How do I evaluate the safety of a fat freezing treatment in Singapore?

Before and 8 Weeks After CoolSculpting

As mentioned before, CoolSculpting has risks and side effects. It may even be dangerous if it's done wrong. This is why it is important that you choose the right clinic in Singapore and evaluate its safety. To assess the safety of a clinic, look out for its track record of safety, accreditations, clinical research papers, professional certifications for the usage of their machine, and built-in safety results. Besides certifications, you also need to find a doctor or therapist with a good eye for detail and years of experience. You can start by searching for CoolSculpting reviews from their previous patients or read CoolSculpting in Singapore blogs. While the most expensive clinic does not necessarily mean the best, it is good to be careful when choosing the cheapest fat freeze clinic in Singapore.

This information has been accurately sourced and verified by a medical professional for its accuracy, however, we strongly recommend you to consult with your doctor before pursuing medical procedures overseas.
